3months ago we rescuend an abandoned puppy we named her Blanca she is an amazing dog much loved by us and the boys.

Unfortunatly due to unexpected cercumstances we are having to return to NZ and much to our disapointment and surprise we can not take Blanca with us. It is very sad for us the boys are going to be devestated that she cant come with us.

The British Consulate in Alicante has requested that its nationals be on alert when they arrive in either El Altet airport outside Alicante. San Javier Airport in Murcia or Manises airport outside Valencia due to the considerable increase in luggage theft. The problem has apparently grown to such an importance that it now features on a travel advisory issued by the Foreign Office. The Consulate revealed that people should be careful when going to pick up their rented car at any of these airports, as they may be followed. When the recent arrivals get to the car, they discover that one or more tires are flat, and in the confusion of being offered help their luggage disappears. The Consulate also advises that on the E15, A7, A70 and N332 main roads many people have fallen victim to people passing themselves off as plain-clothes policemen, and had valuable stolen as a result. The Consulate makes it plain that in all cases concerning traffic incidents or inspections, these are only carried out by uniformed members of the police force - be they the National Police, or more typically, the Guardia Civil

WARNING

Xavier Pastor, the director of the Oceana Institute for Europe has issued a warning that one of the most dangerous jellyfish in the world is now floating around in the Mediterranean. A troop of about fifty of them were discovered in the sea off Los Alcazares in Murcia, and it appears that currents are set to bring more to the coasts of Spain. The species concerned is the Physalia Physalis - better known as the Portuguese Man O’War, whose sting can be fatal for both the children and the elderly, whilst between 30 and 50% ofd those stung by the jellyfish require hospitalization, and it appears that the only way to effectively rid the beach areas of Spain of this danger is to have the jellyfish manually collected. Equally, the jellyfish are still lethal, which could lead to some beaches being closed until the danger is removed. Stings usually cause severe pain and leave whip-like red welts on the skin that normally last for about two or three days. In many cases the sting causes an allergic reaction, with other serious side effects including shock, fever, and interference with the action of the heart and lungs. First aid for those stung should first of all ensure that any remnants of the creature should be removed from the skin using gloves; salt water should be applied to the affected area (fresh water tends to make the sting worse and the use of vinegar does not generally have the desired effect), and this should be followed by an application of hot water that generally eases the pain of the sting, and a doctor should be seen as soon as possible

Speaking in Barcelona yesterday, Formula 1 Supremo Bernie Ecclestone stated that he considers the urban circuit in Valencia The best in the world. However, he also stated I believe that we were too hasty and the Grand Prix was staged a year too soon, and expressed the opinion that the Valencia race did not fulfill expectations, but refused to be drawn any further. These remarks came after the organizers of the European Grand Prix - Valmor Sport, which includes Bancaja, Fernando Roig and Jorge Martinez Aspar - had asked Mr Ecclestone to reduce the 18 million Euro price tag he was demanding in order that the race be staged in Valencia, Sources close to Mr Ecclestone revealed that they had no intention of lowering the price and that a contract had been signed to stage the races in Valencia for seven years. As a result it appears that Valmor is now considering asking the Valencian Government to participate financially in the staging of the races this year

REACTION

In a reaction to the remarks made by Mr Ecclestone, Valencia Mayoress Rita Barbera stated last evening that she considered his words were rather strange, surprising unfortunate and contradictory. She made these remarks following a meeting with Valmor Sport aimed at fixing the date for this years race - August 23. Mrs Barbera also stated that everyone at the meeting were perplexed by the comments of Mr Ecclestone as every time we have heard him speak, he was heaping praise on Valencia along with expressions of admiration at the efficiency with which were showed ourselves capable of putting together the event. She also stated that Mr Ecclestone was effusive in his praise of Valencia, the administrators of the City and the Valencian Government. Mrs Barbera implied that Mr Ecclestone made these remarks in Barcelona, where there is a considerable movement to take the Grand Prix away from us. Every time we stage a world event, something comes from Catalunia to harm the reputation of Valencia. When she was asked about the allegations from Valmor Sport over the financing of the event, Mrs Barbera stated that the Town Hall has done all it can, and the Valmor had never asked for financial participation from the Town Council

A few of you have seen my little Jack race around on his bike. I thought I would share with you the website that I bought it off.

We bought the aluminum - Like a bike - Jumper at 174.80 euros plus delivery which was on 8.50 euros. Lots of different colours available. These bikes, including wooden ones, are made in Germany.

Jack started riding this at 2 1/2 years and has the seat at the lowest it can go. He can definitely use this for another year or so, but will probably be ready for his brother's bike before we know it.

A friend of ours let us borrow theirs and Jack had it sorted on day 2. For us, it was worth the investment, as the confidence he has with it is amazing. Not having any peddles, they have to have their feet down so they can correct themselves very quickly if he gets wobbly.

And, it so light (3400g), so if he gets tired when we are out biking, he can get in the kiddies seat on my bike, and I put his bike on my handle bars and we keep biking!

Valencia Cronica turns 4 years old!

Well, the 7th of April 2005 was the date I sent out the first Valencia Cronica newsletter to about 30 mums. A few years later I was still at it, sending it out to over 700 email addresses, then in November 2007, I turned to the internet and www.valenciacronica@blogspot.com was born!

AND, Who would have thought we would still be in Valencia!

It has been such an amazing journey for me to be doing this. Everyone who has contributed to make the Valencia Cronica as successful as it is, deserves a big a big bottle of bubbles! If only I had a nice big bank balance, I would have thrown a big 'Cronica' party to say thanks! I wouldn't be able to have Duran Duran there (man that party rocked!), but would have found someone to provide the entertainment.

It has been a while since I have had my say on what is going on in this crazy world we live in, so here I go...

The past year has been one of the hardest that I/we may have all been through, whether we (our partners) have had full time, part time or contract work here and there, or nothing. 2008 is a year to forget.

Those of us that have stayed in Valencia with a team or without, or those that have moved on by choice or forced - it hasn't been ideal for most, but then again, some were more than happy to go!

Families have been split for long periods. Plans changing every month, never knowing what is the right thing to, etc etc. The uncertainty has been stressful for EVERYONE.

BUT because the 32nd America's Cup was one of the most amazing rides I /We have been on, we all have been so very very lucky to have had that experience, I think sometimes, we may forget what it is like to live in the REAL WORLD, cos lets face it, the America's Cup is not normal.
The AC is a huge rollercoster and is so much fun to be on, but the fun does stop sooner or later. The AC does not guarantee continuous work, so you should have some sort of 'plan B' in place.

People I know outside of the America's Cup are loosing jobs, their homes, just by trying to live a normal life, but are being hit by the problems faced with the recession.

For us, so many are quick to point the finger and blame someone else on their recent misfortune (I am talking America's Cup here). Sure, the AC problems stuffed us up personally for a while, but through being (very) patient and some hard work, everything has worked out OK. We are responsible for ourselves. The rich men who pay us the good money are not responsible for how we spend it or how we save for the down time!

I am not sure if I would have survived here for so long, if it wasn't for the amazing friends I have here. To have such an important support group, who is going through the same experience, is so valuable. You rock!

This year, when I returned to Valencia from New Zealand, I got the warm fuzzy feeling when all my Spanish friends welcomed me back with big smiles on their faces. As much as I miss all my family and friends in New Zealand, and can't wait to start a life there with my family, I knew that we had made the right decision to stay here for while longer.

However you have been affected by the delays or maybe you have happily found a new way of life outside of the America's Cup; what ever you choose to do; stay positive, think positive and sooner or later, things will work out. Just live life to the fullest. Life is too short!!! You never know what is around the corner!

I have a very good friend who is currently in London, but would prefer to be back in Valencia.

Shirley lived and worked in Valencia in 2005 and 2006 as a nanny. She looked after Jack when he was a baby and helped me around the house.

I would totally recommend her if you are needing regular help with the children and around the house. Being a mother of grown children herself, she is very mature and definitely handy to have around (when we are away from our own family).

She will gladly come over to Valencia if she has some commitment of work. She has family here and would love to be with them again.

Golden Gate Yacht Club Statement

The Golden Gate Yacht Club and its team, BMW ORACLE Racing, remain committed to negotiate with the Defender, Société Nautique de Genève/Alinghi, a conventional mutual consent protocol for the next America's Cup that would involve all teams.

This follows the April 2 decision of the New York State Court of Appeals confirming the Golden Gate Yacht Club as the Challenger of Record for the 33rd America's Cup.

BMW ORACLE Racing's owner, Larry Ellison, and the President of Alinghi, Ernesto Bertarelli, have communicated with each other since the court ruling.

At this stage the club believes it is best to keep communications between the parties private in the interests of reaching a successful conclusion as quickly as possible.

It is a great spectacle of colours - for you to see every Brotherhood's unform and hear lots of traditional Spanish march music. However, this is all, and it will resemble more of a military parade than a religious procession. It is the least impressive procession of all 3. The atmosphere is great - energetic, joyful, last chance for the crowds and the members of the procession to laugh before Christ dies.
Holy Thursday, 20.00 pm start, arrive a bit early to enjoy the social buzz on the square.

Good Friday -
All 28 of the Brotherhoods will take to the streets in the richest procession of Semana Santa Marinera in Valencia. The uniformed members of Brotherhood will surround various biblical characters and their imagen, followed by a music band. This is your chance to see all of the Brotherhoods in their full glory, and all of the imagenes, many of which are true works of art.
Good Friday, 18.30 pm start

On Easter Sunday -
the mood sharply swings to the carnival. All of the Brotherhoods will uncover their faces and energetically walk through the district similing and waving. The music will change from tragic to jubilant, there will be more colours than ever, shower of flower petals and flowers thrown into the crowd. If you can, you can join the Spanish in shouting "guapa!" ("hey, pretty!") to catch a flower.

Where to from here?

The decision does NOT as some commentators have claimed, mean that a Deed of Gift Challenge sailed in 90ft multihulls will be the outcome of this decision and that the 19 challengers entered under the CNEV Protocol will be excluded from the 33rd America's Cup.

All that is required is for Societe Nautique de Geneve to meet with Golden Gate Yacht Club, as Challenger of Record, and agree under the Mutual Consent provisions of the Deed of Gift to run a multi challenger event in either existing AC V5 yachts or some new class.

Golden Gate have been long on the record as saying that is their preference, Alinghi have been actively working towards that end, and have held six Competitor Meetings to decide the Protocol for the event, the Rule to be used for the event and some announcement of officials.

While there may be some changes and tweaking the substance of what has been already agreed (without the involvement of Golden Gate) should be able to be left in place.

Many will point to the fact that GGYC challenged in a 90ft multihull and that is the yacht that must be used.

Not so. CNEV actually described an AC V5 yacht in its Challenge for the 33rd match and that was definitely not going to be used.

The fate of the America's Cup lies in the hands of Ernesto Bertarelli and his clubs and team.

Take the hard line and insist on meeting Golden Gate YC in a multihull and there will be another round of Court argument and Appeal, which will not be resolved for another two years, plus the 10 months taken from todays date for the match to be held - effectively three years.

Or, he can take the magnanimous line, agree to operate under Mutual Consent and run a multi challenger event, which could be underway in 12 months time (April 2010) with the first preliminary regatta being sailed off Valencia in the months time.

Each year they have less and less exhibitors, so you won't find many foreign representatives. BUT it's a great chance to see what this part of Spain can offer.

A couple of things about the Cronica while I remember...

H&M are also moving into Calle Colon, to the old Habitat store.

TodoJugetes has moved from El Saler CC to Calle Salvatiera, next to
Mercado Colon.

I guess the International products in Corte Ingles are in the store
next to Aqua? They have the international food in CI at Pintor
Sorrolla, but not sure about any other stuff (what sort of things are

Also, a reminder that the Conciertos en el Mercado Colon are at 12noon

Each week there is a different band. They begin by marching around

There is a small range in the supermarket also by the meat shelves.

You can get all sorts of yummy things so be sure to have a look! Wines from the different countries, pastas, chocolates, chips, juices, pasta sauces...

Getting into a Tizzy

A vending machine that bakes a fresh pizza in minutes has caused some controversy after its recent launch in Italy. Developer Claudio Torghele revealed that the machine - developed with help from Unilever - had proved popular in two Italian regions, but gourmets call it an affront to the traditional methods of cooking. The Let’s Pizza machine uses infra-red rays and technology developed at Bologna University to knead flour and water into a dough, spread it with tomato sauce as well as a choice of four possible toppings and cook it in less than three minutes at an average cost of four Euros. This has been scoffed at by the Association of Italian Pizzerias, whose spokesman Pino Morelli called the machine a toy. He added that a Pizza, that was invented in Naples in the 18th century, cannot be rushed; the dough must be mixed and left for twelve hours, the ingredients should be absolutely fresh and the oven kept at a constant temperature of 300 degrees Chef Marcello of the Pizzeria Brandi in Naples where the first Pizza was born, stated: Unfortunately today, people invent many things, but you can’t really make any comparison, especially in terms of quality

Get down to the Alameda bridge in the river park, Rio Túria for some great wine and food.
This annual wine and food fair is a great way to sample excellent wines and locally produced meats and cheeses.
It is open from 11am to 9:30pm each day, a 6 euro ticket gets you admission, sampling tickets for wine and food, a wine glass and an earthenware dish.
Just make sure you don't go during the lunch period, for though this food fair is advertised as opening all day - many of the stalls close for lunch 2-4pm!

TURNING THEM OFF

Valencia has revealed that the City will join in Earth Hour this coming Saturday, by turning off the lighting of some thirteen monuments in an effort to combat climate change. The monuments that will go dark for an hour between 8:30 and 9:30 are: The Town Hall, the Silk Exchange, The Torres of Quart, the Torres of Serrano. the Almudin, the Central Market, the Colón Market, the Atarazanas, the Palau de Cervelló, the Palau de la Música and the Palau de la Exposición. THE FALLAS IN FIGURES

Valencia Town Hall has revealed that during the recent Falla festivities, some 7,500 tons of garbage and ash were collected, and that over three hundred thousand Euros were spent in correcting damage to rubbish bins and other urban furniture such as public benches. Ramon Sanchis, the Environmental Councillor stated that the figures for garbage were markedly similar to last year, but stated that he was disappointed at the extensive vandalism that had taken place, particularly with regard to plants in the Blanquerias area of the City, where 17,000 plants had o be replaced and 13,000 Euros was spent on new pots that replaced others that had been smashed <<>> Meanwhile, the Valencian Railway Services has reported that it carried over two million people during the main Falla days, mostly on lines 3 and 5 of the Metro, with the most popular stops being Xativa, Colon and the Plaza de Espana

Public Administrations Minister Elena Salgado, who was in Castellon yesterday, stated that March 25 would be the date of the next meeting between three administrations - the Socialist Government, the Valencian Government and Valencia Town Hall - in an effort to create a new consortium for the Americas Cup in 2010, after Valencia was confirmed as the site. Miss Salgado added that the meeting would be very long and extremely detailed, and in her opinion, the Government had shown what she termed as sufficient interest that Valencia be the site for the next regattas. There is a small yard with a ruby grapefruit tree and a small swimming-pool.
There is a basement with a laundry, a workshop with tools, and a corner with logs of wood for the fireplace.
At the top there´s a little room used for reading, drawing, painting and a flat roof terrace.

Lorenzo Agusti, the Mayor of Paterna, admitted yesterday that he expected a positive response from Swedish furniture giant IKEA over where it would set up in the Valencian Community in the next few days. I met a lady this week who has come here for 6 months. Her family has moved into an apartment that needs a bit of "bulking up" for their stay...they have 4 teenagers! They are after chairs, bedside tables, simple shelves, a dresser, any kitchen utensils/pot/pans... Can't remember if anyone has ever repoted a second-hand furniture place here, but they don't want to spend much as they only need stuff for 5 months and won't be taking any of it back to the US with them.

Dear Ladies,

As you know, a group of friends and me are organizing a Christmas Market in Puzol. We are conscious that a lot of people need different kind of help, and we are so lucky to create the opportunity to help. The money we will raise is going to support the activities of a handicap association in Puzol. They are called "Asociación ADIS". At the market we will sell new items that are donations of different companies, so the prices will be absolutely incredible. We will have clothes, creams, soaps, candles, food, etc.

You are welcome to come and enjoy together with your family a couple of hours of enjoyment. There is going to be games, riffles for everybody and you will also have to possibility to join a Christmas handicrafts activity. Your children will have also the opportunity to have a nice photo together with Santa, who is going to give candies and he will be receiving letters from the children. This market will take place at the SPAI SOCIAL LA BARRACA, CALLE BARRACA, 25 AT PUZOL, ON SATURDAY 13 OF DECEMBER FROM 10:00 UNTIL 20:00.

If you like to collaborate, your help will be more than welcome. We need specially cookies to sell in our bar area. Please write me and tell me if you are going to participate and with how many cookies. By the way, we are going to combine your fantastic cookies with a warm and tasty wine that Desiree Falter will donate.

This coming Friday - 12th of December is the last organised lunch and this one we will be saying goodbye to Denise who is heading back to the USA for a year.

Denise has requested that we have a lovely lunch at Cinquante Cinq which is very appropriate as it was one of our first venues for Girls Night Out dinners back in 2005.

Alasdair has currently got the Christmas Menu going and including drinks it is 20 euros. He has reduced the price for us cos we are SPECIAL!

Book Swap Night!

(A Not-so-Oprah Book Club…)

If you’re in need of some new books for reading and some scintillating literary discussion… or just an excuse to get out of the house …. I’m hosting a monthly evening for anyone interested in getting together to swap and share in some good reading – there’ll even be cake!

How it works:

You simply bring along a book or two you don’t mind sharing with other people (if you already shared books last time, you’ll still be permitted entry empty handed!). I will keep a record of which books belong to which person and who has borrowed them. When we all get together, you can give a brief synopsis of the book/s – or simply add them to the pile! Anyone interested can borrow the book until the following meeting. You then return with the book (if finished!) at the next meeting, choose a new one and so it goes.

It’s a great chance to broaden your reading options, get together or just indulge a Tuesday night outing.

If you’re interested in coming along, Book Swap Night will be….

It is only 3 weeks until I head off for Christmas holiday's and the numbers of who around is also slowly depleting.

I am trying to cram in quite a few things between now and then but do intend to still do the Power Walk and try and get to the coffee catch ups.

What I will ask of now, is if you intent to come to Power Walk, please text me so I know I have interest. I have got a heap of other things I can be doing, but I still need the motivation to get out walking, but will only do it if I have numbers.

A new factory outlet has just opened in Paterna, near to the Carrefour. I visited the mother factory store in Elche last year and they had thousands of shoes and boots for all the family at really good prices. The carrier also revealed that there would be four flights a week, and that it was estimated that this new route would add as many as fifty thousand passengers a year passing through Manises.
