This coming Friday - 12th of December is the last organised lunch and this one we will be saying goodbye to Denise who is heading back to the USA for a year.
Denise has requested that we have a lovely lunch at Cinquante Cinq which is very appropriate as it was one of our first venues for Girls Night Out dinners back in 2005.
Alasdair has currently got the Christmas Menu going and including drinks it is 20 euros. He has reduced the price for us cos we are SPECIAL!
So hopefully you are able to come and It will be great to have us all together before Christmas!

Book swap night
Book Swap Night!
(A Not-so-Oprah Book Club…)
If you’re in need of some new books for reading and some scintillating literary discussion… or just an excuse to get out of the house …. I’m hosting a monthly evening for anyone interested in getting together to swap and share in some good reading – there’ll even be cake!
How it works:
You simply bring along a book or two you don’t mind sharing with other people (if you already shared books last time, you’ll still be permitted entry empty handed!). I will keep a record of which books belong to which person and who has borrowed them. When we all get together, you can give a brief synopsis of the book/s – or simply add them to the pile! Anyone interested can borrow the book until the following meeting. You then return with the book (if finished!) at the next meeting, choose a new one and so it goes.
It’s a great chance to broaden your reading options, get together or just indulge a Tuesday night outing.
If you’re interested in coming along, Book Swap Night will be….

You have probably seen the horse billboards around town for the Cavalia show. Our friends Jurgen and Mike are raffling off 4 free tickets for the Saturday night show. The odds of winning are probably pretty high. The tickets go from 35 to 300 + euros.
Just go to their Blog holavalencia.net and follow the instructions. You just have to send them an email with the answer to the question, "How long does it take to train a horse for Cavalia?" The answer is here, heck it is "6 months to 10 years".

Power Walk, Coffee Catch Up etc
Hola everyone.
It is only 3 weeks until I head off for Christmas holiday's and the numbers of who around is also slowly depleting.
I am trying to cram in quite a few things between now and then but do intend to still do the Power Walk and try and get to the coffee catch ups.
What I will ask of now, is if you intent to come to Power Walk, please text me so I know I have interest. I have got a heap of other things I can be doing, but I still need the motivation to get out walking, but will only do it if I have numbers.
I am also still getting numbers for Helen's Christmas Cooking class so please if you are interested, let me know.

I am selling some furniture a behalf of a friend.All of the furniture is from Ikea and is in really good condition.

A new factory outlet has just opened in Paterna, near to the Carrefour. I visited the mother factory store in Elche last year and they had thousands of shoes and boots for all the family at really good prices. The carrier also revealed that there would be four flights a week, and that it was estimated that this new route would add as many as fifty thousand passengers a year passing through Manises. Wednesday Coffee Catch Up - Location Change
Hola coffee goers...
I have decided it is time to change the location for the Wednesday get together.
The main reason being, I think it would be nice to support a cafe that is owned by the locals rather than a chain. I find it really sad how many places are closing down around the place at the moment, and if we can help support the locals with our coffee addiction, then we should.
I have picked out Notredame - Calle Salamanca 40
Not only is it Smokefree, but their coffee is a couple of euros cheaper (standard coffee but good) and the food is rather yummy also.
And if it is a nice day, we can sit outside.
So what do you reckon???

HALLOWEEN...

Starting at 19.00 we have a room for the kids with an animator to keep them entertained whilst the adults will be getting their faces painted (plastered)?!
Lots of fun and games for everyone...

Bridge, Tennis and Metro...

I just read your post in the cronica regarding the new bridge L'Assut de l'Or. I attach a newpaper article (el mundo) from last week about it.
There they say that actually they wanted to open the bridge for the Formula1. When they saw that they won't make it they said they would get it done for the day of the comunidad valenciana on the 9th of october. But they won't make this either. Now they say that there is no hurry about it and they try to open it by the end of october but they didn't give any exact date.
And there is an other interesting article (las provicias) from yesterday about the subestaciĆ³n electrica (powerstation) that iberdrola is planning underneath the round-about just there. And that the neighborhood is fighting against those plans. What is not mentioned in the article is that the new metro line T-2 will be crossing the bridge and the round-about. I think it's not sure yet if it will continue in c/ pintor maella or in c/ menorca.
Yes the big building next to the bridge (called Ćgora) will be hosting the ATP tennis tournament. But I don't know when it will open....

Is this worth getting excited about... I don't think so
This was in the latest www.valencialife.net online newspaper. I am sorry, but after 1 year of maybe's, I am personally not sure if I want to get excited about this. As much as I hope the America's Cup mess will be finally sorted out... So many of us have got on with our lives (as much as possible), sick of waiting for a positive outcome, I am not holding my breath... But of course, I hope I am wrong.
A FINAL MEETING?
After more than a year of litigation in the New York courts, it has now been revealed that Larry Ellison, the head of the BMW ORacle Syndicate is to meet this week in California with Ernesto Bertarelli, the head of the Alinghi syndicate to try and bury the hatchet and end their legal dispute. It was Mr Bertarelli last week who gave the talks a chance when he stated Larry and I are much closer in our thinking than the media believe. If the talks work out satisfactorily, the competition could be back on the waters off Valencia in a matter of months, with the aim of celebrating the first races in 2009 using the Version five craft that were used in the Americas Cup 2007, with 90-ft craft being used in 2010 and a year later for the championship

I am starting the Power Walks again and you should definitely try and fit it into your Tuesday!
Reasons...
* It is FREE - I lead the class out of the goodness of my heart
* Walking is the best exercise for you
* You may meet someone new
* It works off all those Mojito's, summer cerveza's y vinos!
What I do...
First we start off in the park opposite the 3 torres
We head up the park on the right hand side for about 30 minutes then turn around and finish where we started
It is about 5km and takes around 50min - 1 hour
I then go through about 10 minutes of strengthening exercises for you Ab's, arms, buttocks and legs (summer ain't over yet!)
Finish with a good stretch
Then we head to the Rose Garden Cafe for a drink
No excuse - babies in buggies more than welcome - C u there!

NEW CAFE!!!
We have finally opened our little Italian Cafeteria, where we of course serve an Italian coffee (Lavazza).
Everyday in our kitchen Massimiliano, produces fresh made Italian panini, focaccia, crossaints and cakes. Emanuele and Dorte Malene create true Italian ice cream, and you can follow the production through our open-view kitchen.

Also, I will be away from the 22nd to 30th of August so there will be no Cronica postings during that time. If you want something to go in, then email it to me soon so it gets in pronto.

Alicante and Valencia Provinces tomorrow will be on orange alert due to the extremely high temperatures that are expected to affect both areas around midday. This is after the mercury rose to 38 degrees on the coastal areas and 39 degrees inland, and today this is expected to top 40 and the current heat wave from the Sahara is expected to continue until tomorrow night
BETTER THAN EVER
The City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia has revealed that t took in some forty million Euros last year, receiving almost four and a half million visitors, 78% of which were from other parts of Spain or overseas, mostly coming from Italy and the United Kingdom. On average these visitors spent over 99 Euros a day each, adding 491 million Euros to the Valencian economy, and as a result of the expansion of the installations, some 41,000 people are now employed there full time
CRUISE LINERS ON THE WAY
Oriana, one of the largest liners of the P & O Cruise line is expected to arrive in Valencia later today, bringing 1,881 passengers, as part of a new campaign by Valencia Port to attract cruise liners, with some twenty cruise ships visiting Valencia in August alone, as also expected in Valencia is Brilliance of the Seas, with 2,550 passengers, Island Star, with 1,800 passengers and MSC Sinfonia with over 1,500 passengers. According to the Valencia Tourist Authority, some 25 cruise liners will arrive in Valencia between September and October, and amongst these is the Queen Elizabeth II before the ship sails to Dubai to become a vast floating hotel
CONTRACTS CANCELLED
The problem not only appears to be a municipal decree form Valencia Town Hall banning festivities on balconies overlooking the Formula 1 circuit, but this has now been coupled with another factor: over the last few days, a number of companies who had reserved spaces near the circuit has been dropping dramatically. However financial or other agreements between neighbours is on the rise, and there is some concern over what will actually take place during the Formula 1 race in many apartment blocks ringing the course as they were built in the 60s, and probably unable to take the combination of extra weight and vibrations for the racing cars
